Attached to a noun, ‘은/는’ indicates that the preceding noun is the topic of the sentence.
Example) 호랑이는 동물입니다

‘은’ is attached to a noun ending in a consonant while ‘는’ is attached to a noun ending in a vowel.

A noun + 이/가 indicates that the preceding noun is the subject of the sentence.
Example) 여기가 교실입니다.

When the sentence is centered on the predicate, ‘은/는’ can be used.
When you want to emphasize the subject in a sentence, ‘이/가’ can be used.
Example )
No 1. focused on I’m “student”
No 2. focused on “I” am student, which can be used when someone ask who is a student.
**This is very basic principle, there is other role of “은/는”. When contrasting two or more nouns ‘은/는’ is also used. ex) 저는 키가 작아요. 제 동생은 키가 커요.
